"MESTIZA" Textile Art Exhibition

  • 7 ISLAS HOTEL 4*. 14 Valverde Street Madrid, MD, 28004 Spain (map)

An exhibition where the pieces on display are born from the crossing, from the in-between, from the shadow and the light, from the indigenous and the European, from the natural fiber and the plastic that floats, from the scar that breathes, from the wound that is not erased but becomes the shape of a forest where the roots intertwine under the earth.

"Finger knitting allows me to put the focus on the stitch to stitch in the moment to moment, the here and now. There is regeneration in this process. It is the remnants of materials and scraps left behind by other people that allow my laces to be born." - Alejandro Abarzúa.

Alejandro is a Spanish Chilean visual artist, graduated in Art with a major in Printmaking from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, with studies in Architecture, Art, Public Space and Photography.

The artist explores the creative process from different techniques and materials, using finger weaving, making basketry with various materials such as natural fibers, yarns, rag, wool, rope, and learning by doing and experience, finding in nature his source of endless references that lead him to build his own tools.
